Software without all the software nonsense.

Small apps and games made because I wanted them to exist.

No advertising profiles. No selling your data. No account just so you can press a button. No password reset emails. No growth funnels. No mysterious engagement strategy.

Just software.

Sometimes useful.
Sometimes ridiculous.
Ideally both.

Things I've Made

FoilBird home screen showing a start ride button, ride stats, weather conditions and equipment

FoilBird

Go ride. FoilBird remembers the rest.

FoilBird is a simple ride tracker and equipment log for eFoil riders.

Record your rides. See where you went. Keep track of your speed, distance, time and equipment. Build a history of the places you've ridden and the gear you've used.

Your ride history belongs to you.

FoilBird doesn't require an account and isn't interested in building a detailed behavioral profile of someone who just wanted to go flying around a lake on an electric surfboard.

Which, admittedly, is already a fairly specific behavioral profile.

Available now for iPhone.Android planned.

COMING SOON_

A GAME ABOUT HUMANITY'S NEXT GREAT ADVENTURE

I'm also working on a retro strategy game inspired by the educational computer games many of us played in the 1980s.

You'll make important decisions about supplies, people, money and survival while attempting to save humanity.

Things will probably go wrong.

Why FiRouxDen Exists

I like technology.

I am considerably less enthusiastic about what we've done to software.

At some point every application started needing an account, a cloud platform, analytics, notifications, a subscription, a consent screen, six acount confirmation text messages, 2FA and a venture-backed plan for increasing your lifetime value.

FiRouxDen is my small attempt to make software the other way.

Apps should be useful.
They should be pleasant to use.
They should respect the people using them.
Shouldn't make you log in w/ 2FA every 8 minutes.

And whenever possible, your data should stay yours.

That doesn't mean every FiRouxDen app will work exactly the same way. Some things genuinely need the internet. Some things don't.

But collecting data isn't the business model.

There actually isn't much of a business model.

So far, that's working great.

Hi. I'm Jon.

FiRouxDen is an independent developer name I use for apps, games and other things I decide should exist.

I have spent a lot of my career around technology and software development. FiRouxDen is where I get to make things mostly because I think they would be useful, interesting or funny.

FoilBird started because I wanted a better way to record my eFoil rides.

The next project started because apparently I also think what the world needs is an educational computer game about trying not to die while attempting to save humanity.

When not dreaming up useless apps, you can find me on an eFoil, a snowboard, or at a Mariners game with my kiddos.

We'll see where this goes.

Privacy

The short version

I don't want your data.

FiRouxDen apps are designed to collect as little information about you as possible.

Where an app can store information locally on your device, that's the preferred approach. Personal information is not sold to advertisers or data brokers.

Each app has its own privacy policy explaining exactly what information it uses and why.

Support

Something broken?

That's unfortunate.

If you've found a bug, have a question, or have an idea that would make one of these apps better, send me a note.

Feature requests are welcome.

Whether they are good ideas will be determined through an extremely sophisticated internal review process involving me staring at them for a while.
