Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 12, 2026.
The short version
I don't want your data.
Your rides, equipment and GPS routes are stored on your device. No account. No ads. No trackers. Nothing sold to advertisers or data brokers.
A few features need the internet to work, like weather and maps. The long version below explains exactly which ones and why.
FoilBird is developed by FiRouxDen. FoilBird is designed around a simple idea: your ride data should belong to you.
FoilBird does not require an account. We do not operate a cloud database containing your rides. We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or cross-app tracking.
This Privacy Policy explains what information FoilBird uses, why it uses it, where that information is stored, and when information may be processed by third-party services needed to provide certain app features.
1. Information FoilBird Uses
FoilBird may use the following information when you choose to use the related features.
Location and GPS Data
FoilBird uses your device's location services to record eFoil rides.
This may include:
- GPS coordinates
- timestamps
- speed
- distance traveled
- route information
- ride start and end locations
- location information used to determine or display a ride location
When you actively record a ride, FoilBird may continue accessing your location while the app is in the background or while your device is locked. This is necessary so the app can continue recording the ride when FoilBird is not visible on screen.
Location information recorded as part of a ride is stored locally on your device as part of your ride history.
FiRouxDen does not receive or maintain a copy of your recorded GPS ride history on its servers.
You can control FoilBird's access to location services through your device's operating-system settings. If location access is disabled, ride-recording features may not work.
Ride Information
FoilBird stores information associated with rides you record, which may include:
- ride date and time
- ride duration
- distance
- speed information
- GPS route
- equipment used
- starting and ending battery percentages
- ride notes
- ride location or location name
- other information you choose to associate with a ride
This information is stored locally on your device.
Equipment Information
FoilBird allows you to keep track of equipment used while riding.
This may include information about:
- boards
- batteries
- masts
- front wings
- rear wings
- propellers or jet propulsion equipment
- custom equipment you create
Equipment information is stored locally on your device.
Notes and Other Information You Enter
Any notes, equipment names, battery information, or other information you manually enter into FoilBird are stored locally on your device.
FoilBird does not transmit this information to FiRouxDen.
2. Weather Information
FoilBird may display current weather conditions based on your location.
FoilBird uses WeatherAPI.com to provide weather information.
When FoilBird requests weather information, location information such as geographic coordinates or a location query may be transmitted to WeatherAPI.com so it can return weather conditions for your area.
As with normal internet communications, WeatherAPI.com may also receive technical information associated with the request, such as your device's IP address and request timing.
WeatherAPI.com operates independently from FiRouxDen and processes information according to its own privacy policy and terms.
FoilBird does not send your complete ride history, saved GPS routes, equipment information, battery information, or ride notes to WeatherAPI.com.
FoilBird does not store a permanent historical weather record with your rides unless a future version of the app specifically introduces that feature and this Privacy Policy is updated accordingly.
3. Maps
FoilBird uses mapping services to display recorded ride routes.
When a map is displayed, your device may communicate with a third-party map or map-tile provider in order to download map imagery or geographic data.
Depending on the provider and normal internet networking behavior, that provider may receive technical information such as:
- your device's IP address
- map areas requested
- request timestamps
- basic network or device information associated with the request
FoilBird does not intentionally provide the map provider with your identity, FoilBird account information, or a FiRouxDen user profile because FoilBird does not require a user account.
Your recorded ride database remains stored locally on your device.
4. Notifications
FoilBird may request permission to send local notifications.
For example, FoilBird may notify you when:
- a ride appears to have been inactive for an extended period
- a ride has been recording for an unusually long period and may have been left running
These notifications are generated for app functionality and are not used for advertising.
You can disable FoilBird notifications through your device's settings.
5. Local Storage
FoilBird is designed as a local-first application.
Your FoilBird database and ride history are stored on your device rather than in a FiRouxDen-hosted cloud account.
This includes information such as:
- ride history
- GPS routes
- equipment
- battery information
- notes
- app preferences
Because this information is stored locally, FiRouxDen generally cannot view, retrieve, restore, or modify your FoilBird data remotely.
6. Device Backups and Cloud Backups
Your device's operating system may include FoilBird data in device backups, such as an iCloud backup on Apple devices or an equivalent backup service on Android devices.
Those backups are controlled by your device and operating-system provider, not by FiRouxDen.
The handling of information contained in those backups is governed by the privacy practices and settings of the applicable platform provider.
You can manage device backup settings through your operating system.
7. Information We Do Not Collect for Our Own Use
FoilBird does not require you to provide:
- your name
- an email address
- a phone number
- a username
- a password
- a social-media account
- a FiRouxDen account
FoilBird does not use your information for:
- targeted advertising
- behavioral advertising
- marketing profiles
- data brokerage
- cross-app tracking
- selling personal information
FoilBird does not contain third-party advertising.
FoilBird does not use third-party advertising trackers.
FoilBird does not sell or rent your personal information.
8. Analytics
FoilBird does not use third-party behavioral analytics to track how individual users use the app.
If this changes in a future version of FoilBird, this Privacy Policy and the applicable App Store or Google Play privacy disclosures will be updated before that functionality is introduced.
9. Sharing of Information
FiRouxDen does not sell your personal information.
Because FoilBird is primarily local-first, FiRouxDen generally does not possess your ride information to share in the first place.
Some information may be transmitted directly from your device to third parties when necessary to provide a feature you request. Examples may include:
- WeatherAPI.com when requesting current weather
- a mapping provider when downloading map content
- Apple, Google, or another platform provider as part of device backup, operating-system services, or app distribution
Those companies process information according to their own privacy policies and terms.
We may also disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal process. Because FiRouxDen does not maintain a server-side copy of your FoilBird ride database, we cannot disclose ride data that we do not possess.
10. Data Retention and Deletion
Ride and equipment information stored by FoilBird remains on your device until you delete it through the app, reset the app's data, or remove the application and its associated local data.
Because FiRouxDen does not maintain a FoilBird user account or server-side ride database, there is generally no FiRouxDen cloud account to delete and no remote ride-history deletion request required.
Copies of app data may remain in device backups until those backups are deleted or expire according to your operating-system or backup provider's policies.
11. Security
FoilBird reduces privacy risk by minimizing the amount of personal information transmitted away from your device.
Local app information is also protected by the security mechanisms provided by your device and operating system.
No method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but FoilBird is intentionally designed to avoid maintaining a centralized database of users' ride histories.
You are responsible for maintaining appropriate security for your device, including device passwords, biometric authentication, and operating-system updates.
12. Children's Privacy
FoilBird is a general-purpose eFoil utility and is not directed specifically toward children under the age of 13.
FoilBird does not knowingly collect personal information from children into a FiRouxDen-operated user database.
If you believe information from a child has been provided directly to FiRouxDen in a manner inconsistent with this policy, please contact us.
13. Third-Party Services
FoilBird may rely on third-party software libraries, mapping services, weather services, operating-system APIs, and other infrastructure necessary to provide app functionality.
These may include services such as WeatherAPI.com for weather information and third-party mapping services for displaying ride routes.
The specific third-party software libraries used by FoilBird may be listed within the app under Settings → Open Source / Third-Party Licenses.
Third-party services operate under their own privacy policies and terms.
FiRouxDen does not control the privacy practices of WeatherAPI.com, Apple, Google, mapping providers, or other independent third-party services.
14. Apple App Store and Google Play
If you download FoilBird through the Apple App Store or Google Play, Apple or Google may process information associated with downloading, purchasing, updating, or using applications through their stores.
FiRouxDen does not control information collected independently by Apple or Google as part of their app-store services.
Please refer to the applicable platform provider's privacy policy for information about those practices.
15. International Users
FoilBird may be available in multiple countries.
Because FoilBird stores its primary ride database locally rather than transferring that database to FiRouxDen servers, FoilBird is intentionally designed to minimize international transfers of personal information.
Third-party services used by your device, such as WeatherAPI.com, mapping, operating-system, backup, and app-store services, may process information in other jurisdictions according to their own privacy practices.
16. Your Privacy Choices
You control many of FoilBird's privacy-related features directly through your device.
Depending on your operating system, you can:
- disable or change location permission
- disable background location access
- disable notifications
- control device backups
- delete individual FoilBird data where supported within the app
- uninstall FoilBird and remove its local application data
Some FoilBird features cannot function without the permissions required for them. For example, FoilBird cannot record a GPS route without access to your location.
17. Changes to This Privacy Policy
FoilBird may change over time.
If a future version introduces materially different data practices, such as accounts, cloud synchronization, analytics, or additional third-party services, this Privacy Policy will be updated to describe those changes.
The effective date at the top of this policy indicates when it was most recently updated.
